Ballroom (Latin) This class will focus on one of the hottest dance crazes to hit the U.S.  Latin clubs are springing up in big cities.  Latin dancing is fun, romantic, and a great form of exercise.  In six weeks you will learn basics in Salsa, Rumba, Cha-Cha, and Merengue.  No partner or prior dance experience necessary.

Ballroom (American) Dancing is a perfect ice breaker.  Cruises, nightclubs, weddings, reunions, and parties are always more fun when you are dancing.  At any social event, the sight of a great dancer moving to a captivating beat is simply irresistible.  And now, you too can step into that light with confidence.  During the 6-week session three major rhythms – waltz, foxtrot, and swing – will be taught.  Come alone or bring friends and family.  No partner or prior dance experience is necessary.

Creative Dance for children includes an introduction to a variety of dance styles, rhythm, and counting through the use of a wide range of children’s, classical, jazz and contemporary music and instruments.  In   creative dance, the goal is to inspire dancers to freely express themselves through movement (both structured and unstructured), to develop confidence in their abilities and unique styles in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere.  Movement is introduced in a playful way that encourages them to apply their own imagination,   energy, and to increase confidence.

Hip Hop
is a high energy form of street dance, as seen in the movie “Honey,”  “Step Up,” and performed on music videos.  It includes many other dance forms such as street funk, poppin’, lockin’, and break dance.  Hip hop class is a great workout and way to learn the hottest new dance movesCareful attention is given to using “clean” music for all children’s classes.

Hip-Hop, Breakin, B-Style (Buffie)
This high energy class will build body strength while showing you how to do various Break dancing and Hip-Hop moves. The class will focus on transitioning from Break dancing to Hip-Hop dancing fluidly and easily, building confidence, improving skills and having FUN! 

Hip-Hop/ Lyrical (Buffie)
This class focuses more on technique and the more feminine side of Hip-Hop.  The style combines flowing jazzy style movements with sharp and fast hip hop moves and wacking.

Hip-Hop/ Step/Poppin (Bruce)
Learn basic foundations of street dancing and how to become prepared for battling. Learn moves as seen in the movie "Stomp the Yard". Learn tricks, gimmicks and foundational popping, housing, stepping and break dancing steps while becoming accustomed to the etiquette and presentation of street dancing. This class will improve performance skills as well as give techniques to gain strength, endurance and creativity. Individuality is promoted while still encouraging teamwork. Please wear loose clothing, no street, soap, healies or skate shoes.

 Modern Dance:  This fun and playful class will focus on moving through space while maintaining strong alignment and aesthetic awareness. Starting with a technique based warm-up and moving into challenging combinations that incorporate floor work, inversions, weight shift, musicality and coordination, this class will provide a supportive training ground for a resonant and expressive body.  The work is inspired by studies in ballet, jazz, anusara yoga, martial arts, Graham and release forms, Contact Improvisation, somatics, body work and play.

Street Funk is a style of hip hop that is typically to faster music and incorporates jazz moves into the dance.  In this class you will learn funky street dance steps while getting an aerobic workout.

Street Funk Mix (Tami) This class combines street funk and hip hop with other dance genres such as disco, Latin, African etc.  A diverse variety of music is used and the focus is on getting a great workout and having fun!

Swing Dance is a broad term that umbrellas many different styles of dance.  This class will be focused on Lindy Hop and Charleston, some of the earliest forms of swing dance.  Lindy Hop and Charleston are high energy, lead and follow, social dances.  There is an emphasis on partner connection, musicality, and improvisation.  You will learn everything you need to know to be successful on the social dance floor.  You will even learn flashy moves to add to your repertoire.  If you don't have a pair of soft soled, non marking, indoor shoes, feel free to dance in your socks!

West African dance embodies athleticism and a graceful beauty flowing with rhythm. In Africa, dance is a means of marking the experiences of life, encouraging abundant crops, and healing the sick soul and body. It is also done purely for enjoyment. All ceremonial African dances have a purpose. They tell stories and relate history. African music and dance in its essence communicates concepts of life on an elevated level; dance to the African is a universal, transcendent language. Traditionally, people throughout the continent of Africa achieve direct communication between themselves and their gods through ritual music and dance, including many with masks." - World Arts West Viewers Guide In this dance class you will be taught traditional West African dances, most often from the country of Guinea. Your instructor and drummers for this class are not of African decent, but they hope you will enjoy and be inspired by these traditional dances and rhythms as much as they are. These dances are taught with deep reverence for the traditional teachers who have shared them across cultures.
